Vom Aufbau Ost zum Stadtumbau Ost - in den letzten zehn Jahren hat sich der Blick auf die Stadtentwicklung in den Neuen Bundesländern erheblich verändert. Die Planung muss heute auf einen drastischen Bevölkerungsverlust reagieren, der alle Bereiche der Stadt erfasst hat. Allzuoft konzentriert sich die Diskussion allein auf die Folgen dieser Entwicklung für den Wohnungsbau bzw. „-rückbau". Im vorliegenden, interdisziplinär angelegten Sammelband richten Experten den Blick auf die öffentlichen Räume, denn der Umgang mit dem öffentlichen Raum wird darüber entscheiden, welche Vorstellungen von städtischem Leben sich in Zeiten der Schrumpfung verwirklichen lassen und welche nicht.
